P.L.A.C.E. Video Project

Afterschool on Tuesdays for 12 weeks a group of International Academy students from the Movie Making class will spend time with professional film maker Nicki Chavoya of P.L.A.C.E. to learn about the production process and make a movie of their own! See pictures from their preparation and filming sessions below.

A brief bio of Nicki:

Since graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2005, Nicki’s films have screened at both international and national film festivals including the Berlinale, Cannes, SXSW, Hot Docs, Full Frame and IDFA and have premiered on National Geographic and in theaters both in Europe and North America. Ranging from documentaries and music videos to art installations, Nicki’s body of work focuses on social issues and culture. Her projects have taken her around the world to countries including Haiti, Germany, France, Canada, India and throughout the U.S.

With a passion for supporting and collaborating with other artists, Nicki founded the Outpost Art Collective (New Haven). Outpost produces video, web-content, events and multi-media art projects that promote and highlight artists and their projects. Through Outpost she has produced and curated several art events in New Haven and Brooklyn including art shows, film festivals, music concerts, art festivals and more.

Nicki's latest narrative film, FILS, stars Michael Nathanson and Jen Tullock and will be released in 2016. Currently, she is in development on a feature to be filmed in Connecticut in Spring 2016.
