Student & Family Expectations

International Academy will provide...

 

  • Collaborative, student centered, interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences across classrooms.

  • A college preparatory education of core academic courses and relevant electives.

  • Teacher teams that support personalized learning for students.

  • A smaller learning community within Wilbur Cross.

  • An academic advisor to facilitate frequent school / home communication.

  • A community where students and faculty value and are accepting of diverse student identities.

  • Team building experiences so students can get to know each other and support one another.

  • Field trips to facilitate authentic and relevant learning experiences.

  • Frequent opportunities to work collaboratively with other students.

  • Honors credits available to all students through a system of honor contracts.

Students will...

 

  • Engage in learning in the classroom.

  • Follow all WCHS academic and behavioral expectations.

  • Work collaboratively with all IA@WCHS students.

  • Value and accept differences among students and among the entire school community.

  • Be committed to language development for all students.

  • Learn about and practice Habits of Mind (habits that support student success both in and out of school).

  • Stay after school at first sign of concern for extra help with teachers.

  • Come to school on time every day.

  • Use electronics responsibly to promote learning.

  • Seek help from students and teachers in the IA community when necessary.

  • Freely offer support to other students in the IA community when necessary.

  • Participate in extra-curricular activities (i.e. sports, clubs, service groups, religious communities, etc.).

  • Work hard at school and complete homework assignments.

  • Explore new concepts for a deep level of understanding.

  • Practice community-minded decision making.

  • Resolve conflicts peacefully (or seek support from adults to resolve conflicts peacefully).

  • Be “upstanders” who are socially responsible.

Families will...

 

  • Check academic progress of your student on Power School regularly.

  • Communicate with the school consistently concerning absences.

  • Participate in Student Led Conferences three times per year.

  • Attend project exhibitions and other school events.

  • Enroll their child in IA@WCHS for four years.
