Here are some ideas for career experiences you can provide for students. Think of these descriptions as flexible guidelines for each experience. We are happy to work with you to design an experience that fits with the mission and goals of your business/organization.
Host a full internship experience

Description of experience: Internship experiences are an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the workplace. Students are matched with businesses/organizations based on their career interests, and engage in reflection and self-evaluation about the internship. These reflections are accompanied by employer feedback, commenting on students' strengths and areas of development. The Internship Coordinator collaborates with employers to recognize students' achievements and support their improvement as employees.

Host a short job shadow experience

Description of experience: Job shadows are short experiences where students get a quick "day in the life" exposure to a career they are interested in pursuing. An employer agrees to let one or a few students follow around an employee for a day to see what their job is like. Students can learn what skills are important for a job, experience the workplace atmosphere, and learn about what education and training are required to obtain a job in the field.

Schedule a workplace tour

Description of experience: A workplace tour is a career awareness activity in which students visit a workplace, learn about the business, meet employees, ask questions, and observe work in progress. Employees can talk about their responsibilities in the business and what education and credentials were required to obtain their position. Opportunity for an informal discussion will give students a chance to ask their career-related questions.

Speak at a Career Day at school

Description of experience: A Career Day involves speakers from a variety of fields speaking with groups of students about their jobs. Speakers talk about what job they have, what the job is like, how they obtained their job, etc. The Career Day involves groups of students rotating between a selection of speakers, chosen based on their career interests. Speakers talk in an informal, classroom setting where students can ask questions.
